The Phalaenopsis is the perfect starter orchid. Not only do the flowers last for months, but mature plants tend to re-bloom on the same stem. Larger specimens can be in bloom all year round. The size of the flowers varies from tiny 1.2 cm. to 12 cm. Some are fragrant but most are not. You can choose from white, white with red lip, candy stripe, speckled or spotted, pink, yellow, orange and even solid red. Easy success with these rewarding plants quickly leads to an addiction to orchids.
We no longer very many of the hybrids, however, we do still grow the species and a few primary hybrids because they are rare and charming in their own right. This is where those fantastic hybrids start.
