The Oncidium alliance is currently one of Doug's favourite alliances. Because there are a rather large number of genera that can contribute their traits to the intergeneric hybrids, the variety of colour and shape is almost endless.
The right combination of warm and cool growing species results in easy to flower plants that thrive at intermediate temperatures and adapt easily to in-house conditions as long as there is bright light.
Oncidiums are the delightful dancing ladies. Although predominately yellow and brown in colour pink, purple, red and even white flowers are easily produced in great abundance. Sprays are often long and multi-branched. Bright light is the trick to growing the large pseudobulbs that produce lots of flowers. Plants may be very large or delightfully dwarf.
Most Oncidiums are easy for the beginner as long as they give them enough light. Many of the hybrids bloom several times a year.
